Delaware Bullying Prevention Association: Volunteer Orientation

Yesterday, I attended the DBPA:Volunteer Orientation meeting at Christianna Hospital, where we discussed some of our personal stories and how we are making a difference in our community. There, I was able to meet some wonderful women who have really made the initiative to take a stand against Bullying, Harassment, and Gang Violence, and help promote a Hate-Free Zone. The DBPA is a statewide community-based volunteer organization operated by professionals trained in the field of academics, counseling, pediatrics child and adolescent psychiatry, justice, social work, bullying prevention, child abuse prevention, and suicide prevention.  Coleen M. Sullivan O'Connor and Mrs. Jan Dallepazze, the hosts of the orientation and representatives for the Delaware's Bullying Prevention Association kindly shared their experiences as a By-Stander and how they're trying to help make a difference. After their many years of counseling and mentoring they wanted to take their teachings a step further and develop an Non-profit organization, that willingly goes around and educates the youth in the effects of Bullying and how one could help turn this epidemic around. It was so moving to see all that is really being done to help toward this cause and how much people are really focusing on a topic as serious as this. With the help from these women, and the support of our peers, we can all help to make the world a safer, sweeter, Hate-Free Zone.

We can all make a difference... we just need to take that first step...
