November/December 2011
This month was very busy! I continued to help out with local teen and miss pageants, and rehearsed up a storm for both Nutcrackers. I had a great time visiting to elementary schools in Delaware. I was able to speak about my platform with kindergarten students at the Academy of Dover and first and third graders of Woodbridge Elementary. I also performed for them and talked to them about being in a production. The kids were awesome and really enjoyed the presentation.
November 19th and 20th I performed the Jazz Nutcracker at Clara with the Delaware Dance Alliance. It was such a neat experience. I learned a bit a swing dancin’…hmmm maybe a little “Dancing with the Stars” in my future???? LOL!
My family and I traveled to Philly on Thanksgiving Eve (very late since I had partnering practice until 9) for the Dunkin’ Donuts Thanksgiving day parade! Even though I woke up at 3 a.m. throwing up…I still had a blast. I was able to catch up with my girls from nationals! We even had a live shot on “Good Morning America” with Sam Champion…at 6:45 a.m.!!!!! The parade was so spectacular! My little sister really loved it…especially the bands and the Disney floats.
Nutcracker weekend was a blast as usual. I always have such an amazing time performing and hanging out with all the dancers. This year was particularly special since I would be performing the lead role of the Sugar Plum Fairy and dancing my great-grandmother’s choreography. My mom was even a big part of the show this year…as the production coordinator!
As soon as Nutcracker was over I was on the hunt for a part-time job! Wow…that was easy. I found a job as a hostess at Texas Road House. Come and see me!!!! Christmas was awesome as I was able to spend time with family and friends. Christmas morning was the best this year because this was the first year my little sister was really into it…she is 3 1/2. We had so much fun opening gifts and playing.
The rest of the break I spent working, hanging out with friends and babysitting. Before I knew the break was coming to an end and I am now preparing for a return to school, dance, work…reality!!!!

Pageants, Parades, and Practice

This month has been full of so much! I have had several pageant appearances. Congrats to all the local teen winners so far! My junior class at Caesar Rodney High School has worked hard…well for 2 days…on our parade float…WE WON! And boy oh boy…I have had practice, practice, and practice for both Nutcrackers. It has been an extremely busy month. We are going up to Wilmington for partnering practices in addition to our regular practices. We are also preparing for several community appearances. I will be visiting the Academy of Dover and Woodbridge Elementary to promote my platform, along with The Nutcracker ballet. I am also going to be performing at the Mispillion Art League and the Milford Senior Center.

September 2011

Wow!!! Amazing!!! Incredible!!! Must I go on! No one single word can describe my experience at nationals. I met the most amazing girls and had a blast. It was so much fun the memories I made are irreplaceable. From photo shoots, interviews, production rehearsals, dinners, events, and just “hanging out”…the 10 days were filled to the top with things to do. I loved getting to dress up in all my gorgeous dresses, gowns, and outfits. One of the highlights of the week was getting to spend time with Lacey. She is such an amazing young woman…genuine, smart, caring, and a true role model for all teens.

Unfortunately the week had to come to an end…and after a full day of travel it was BACK TO SCHOOL! My first week was awesome. It was great to see all my friends…I missed them so much! I also had Nutcracker auditions for both Diamond Dance Company and Delaware Dance Alliance. I was lucky to be cast as the Sugar Plum Fairy in the Classical ballet version with DDC and as Clara in the jazzy version with DDA! I have my work cut out for me!!!! On top of all that I have to keep up my ballet classes, school work, and local teen pageants are beginning!

On September 15th my family suffered a terrible loss. My great-grandmother, Tatiana, died. She was my inspiration in dance and we will miss her so much! I am so lucky to have had her in my life and am so honored to be performing her choreography as the Sugar Plum Fairy this year. I only hope that I can live such a long and successful life….92 years!!!!! We had to make a 9 hr. trip to Columbus, OH for my grandmother’s burial. It was great to meet family and to see where my great-grandfather and great-great grandparents were buried.

Looking forward to a great school year and Nutcracker season doing what I love most...dancing!!!

Getting Ready To Go!!

I can not describe how excited I am for this week to begin!
It's finally here and I'm so thrilled!!! Can't wait to meet the other 52 contestants (including my roomy Miss Kentucky's Outstanding Teen, Erynn), and Lacey, of course!!!

I have been preparing for Miss America's Outstanding Teen, working ,and dancing! I have been very busy and the weeks getting ready for the pageant have flown by!!

ORLANDO here I come!!!!!!

On July 30th I held a National Dance day class in Milford! It was such a blast! :) I really enjoyed working with the junior and apprentice Diamond Dance Company Members. They were so cute and worked real hard. I choreographed and taught them a contemporary dance piece.

I had my send off party on Friday! It was so beautiful and I had so much fun showing all my amazing dresses and outfits to my family and friends! Thank you to everyone who came and supported me! The food was awesome and I got to speak with so many people. Maria Cahill, the current Miss Delaware and Kayla Martell, Miss DE 2010 were there! I have to give a BIG BIG thanks to Amanda Debus for helping me out with all my wardrobe changes and keeping me organized...YOU ROCK!!!!!

Staying busy and Getting Ready for ORLANDO!!!

I have been super busy since my last post. I have been working, volunteering, fundraising, and preparing for Nationals.

I am happy to announce that my wardrobe is just about complete...I am so happy with all my pieces! Thanks to Kim, my director, for getting me all the things I really fell in love with. I have several cocktail pieces, my interview dress, my gowns, and jewelry (Thanks Sandy S.). I still need to make a final decision on my arrival outfit, but I have several great tops to choose from. As usual, though, I am in search of a couple pair of shoes. I am very excited about my send-off party!!! <3

The parade was so cool. Not only did I meet some awesome people, I was able to spend the day with my family in the city where it all began!!! There were some really neat vendors and acts in thy city of "brotherly love". I even got to see a Michael Jackson impersonator perform...it was so entertaining. I even got to eat a real Philly cheese steak which was so good!

Philly Indpendence Day Parade- July 4, 2011
I got to meet Miss New Jersey's OT and Miss PA OT! I am excited to spend time with them in Orlando!!!

Two of my dance teachers...Maria Fry and Michele Xiques...wanted to help me reach my goals! Maria taught a killer Zumba class at FSAD. We were sweating up a storm. I really appreciate everyone that was able to come out and support this great cause. It was so much fun I'm so happy I have such supportive people in my life!

For the past few weeks I have been able to volunteer at Dover Parks and Rec. I spent time with some amazing young girls. We danced, played, hung out, and talked. It was great to spend time with them and get to know them. Can't wait for another opportunity like this. I hope I was able to inspire them in some way. :)

Dance 4 Your Life! is centered around National Dance Day, an annual celebration that takes place on the last Saturday in July and was launched in 2010 by Nigel Lythgoe, DFF co-president and co-creator and executive producer of Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance.” Expanding the message and fun of National Dance Day into a year-round initiative, Dance 4 Your Life! will raise awareness of the benefits of dance and encourage people of every age and physical condition to incorporate dance into their lives as a way to improve heart health and combat obesity

A long-time proponent of healthy lifestyles, Congressman Eleanor Holmes Norton, Washington, D.C., introduced the National Dance Day resolution to promote dance education and physical fitness across the United States. “More than 30 percent of Americans are obese and childhood obesity has tripled in the past 30 years,” said Norton. “Television shows such as So You Think You Can Dance are not only entertaining but are also encouraging people to live a physically active lifestyle. Holding a National Dance Day in the nation’s capital is a terrific way to promote fitness and fight obesity.”
National Dance Day is held on July 30, 2011. National Dance Day events will include local celebrations at Six Flags parks across the country.

Three viral videos will be released with different levels of National Dance Day choreography, making it possible for people of all ages and dance backgrounds to celebrate.

Master Ballet Instructor Val Goncharov

Val graduated from Kiev Ballet Academy in 1982, and was offered five different company positions, but he chose the Donetsk Opera and Ballet Theater to be closer to his family. As a principal dancer with the Donetsk Opera and Ballet Theater from 1982 to 1992, Val toured the United States four times, and danced at the Nervi International Ballet Festival in Genoa, Italy. In 1987 he received a Bronze medal at the Republican Ballet Competition (Donetsk, Ukraine). In 1992, while on a U.S. tour, he defected to the United States. Working as a Principal Dancer at the Donetsk Opera and Ballet Theater, Ballet Theater of Pennsylvania and Russian Ballet Theater of Delaware, Mr. Goncharov performed principal roles in many classical ballets: Bahchisarai Fountain, Swan Lake, Giselle, Francesca da Rimini, Nutcracker, Romeo and Juliet, Chopiniana (Les Sylphide), The Firebird, Cinderella and many more.

I have been pretty busy the past couple weeks. School is finally over and I'm so excited to start summer!!! I have been working like crazy in the hot hot sun at Killen's Pond Waterpark! I have a blast with all my coworkers and having a great experience!

Amanda Debus' sendoff party was last night and I had such a great time. She is an amazing, beautiful girl and I just know that she will do fabulous at the Miss Teen USA pageant. Not only do I believe she can do it 100%, she is very confident and has all the tools to win! So bring the crown home Mandie! I love you ! <3

During Mandie's party I had the privilege of stuffing my face with yummy food! MY FAVORITE! I had fried ravioli, crab dip, and bruschetta! But, the BEST part was the dessert. Little Sarah and I ate every dessert possible! I was told by her father she as the dessert queen... and so am I...so we were partners in crime! We had delicious chocolate cookies with ice cream in the middle, chocolate covered strawberries, and to pieces of cake... the was sent in from Food Networks Ace of Cakes! Yea, the TV show!!!!!!!!!! Which made the cake even cooler to eat! :) It was great to see Steffi Holmes (Miss New Castle County 2011), Galen Giacoone (Miss Delaware 2008) and Mikaila Ryan (Miss Mid-Atlantic 2011). This week I'm going to Dover Parks and Rec. summer camp to promote my platform, Get Up and Dance! I'm looking forward to working with all the kids and teaching and motivating them!

I am, as always, preparing for the national competition! Wardrobe decisions, talent rehearsals, and staying up to date on current events for interview...it is a lot of work, but I love it! :) I know I will be ready by August!!

An Amazing Weekend

Hello Everyone!
This weekend at Miss Delaware 2011 was an amazing experience! I had a blast backstage with Kayla and Susan Powell (Miss America 1981)! We had a good time talking and I never knew how funny Susan was… she's hilarious!!!!!!! My favorite part was Friday night. I had a sleep over with Kayla in her hotel room at Dover Downs. We ended up staying up 'til 2 in the morning talking! I learned so much from her in such a short time. She is an amazing person and represented Delaware so well this past year. She has impacted so many lives not just in Delaware but all across America. There was an 8 year old who flew all the way from Texas and performed at Friday night’s show. She also has alopecia and looked up to Kayla and just had to meet her! It was so touching and amazing to see an 8 year old with such talent and stage presence. She was on fire on the stage and had me and the audience in awe. Helping the “little Sisters” was also so much fun. They looked so cute as they escorted the Miss Delaware contestants across the stage for the evening gown part of the competition. It was such an honor to be able to perform each night of the pageant. Saturday was so nerve racking for me waiting to see who my new “BIG SISTER” would be. Maria won and crowning her was awesome! I'm glad I got to be a part of such a special moment in her life! Being there this weekend made me even more excited for August, when I will compete for MISS AMERICA'S OUTSTANDING TEEN 2012! All the girls did such a fabulous job competing...it was so hard to even predict who the winner might be!

I did not have much time to rest up for my dance recital. We did not get home until 2 a.m. after the pageant and had to be up bright and early for dress rehearsals...only an hour break...then back for the show! It was a VERY busy and exhausting weekend.

Well, one more day of exams and Summer VACA officially begins!

The energy in the room tonight is infectious! Each contestant brought it to the table this evening which is no surprise when they have all worked so hard. I would be amiss if I didn't mention How wonderful all of the entertainers did tonight...formers rock! Just wait till tomorrow when even more powerhouses join in the reunion! We have been truly blessed in this organization to have such an amazing sisterhood of former Miss Delaware's. Thanks for your continued support.

Let's cheer on Kayla as she continues to touch our lives with her grace and beauty inside and out. She did an amazing job tonight and we are very proud her!

What a great night for the Miss Delaware Scholarship Organization!
The competition was exciting and the 16 contestants looked amazing -
can't wait to see what Friday night prelims bring. As Aimee Voshell
String said in her blog, "Thursday night's competition was FIERCE!!!
Congrats to all of our contestants! The preliminary evening gown
award was a three way tie. Congratulations to Maria Cahill, Erin
Magnin, and Melissa Caltabiano. The Linda Kurtz preliminary swimsuit
award went to Chelsea-Lee Ray and the Preliminary Talent Award went to
Chelsea Betts. A huge congratulations to all of the preliminary
winners. You should be so proud!! I also don't want to forget to
congratulate Thursday's Miss Spirit, Marcie Smith!" Looking forward

Talent Talent Everywhere!!

I have had a busy 10 days! Last Thursday, May 26th, I had the opportunity to host the Welch Elementary Dance Team Talent Show Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser. It was so awesome to see all "my" little dancers perform the two dances I choreographed and taught them. They really made me so proud. I was also so impressed with the amazing talent of all the 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders of Welch Elementary. So many kids with fabulous voices and musical talents...and how brave to get in front of over 100 people and perform. Hosting this event allowed me to raise over $75 for the CMN Hospitals too. Thanks to all the parents, kids, and staff of Welch Elementary for helping me get closer to reaching my $1000 goal. I am almost half way there. YIPPEE!!!!

Last weekend was exhausting. I worked at Killen's Pond the entire holiday weekend. I was so tired everyday when I got home...being out in the hot sun all day is so draining. This past Thursday I had the honor of performing on the Green (sponsored by WSFS) with many of the Miss Delaware 2011 Contestants, as well as Miss Delaware 2010-Kayla!!!! I performed a self-choreographed contemporary routine. So sorry I had to rush off so quickly, but I had to get to Milford to practice for my upcoming dance recital- Next Sunday, June 12th, Lake Forest High School at 5:00 p.m.!

This week will be super super busy!! I will be participating in all the Miss Delaware pre-show, preliminary, and final night events, including the "princess" program (June 9-11). I am so excited to meet all the little princesses on Tuesday night. We are going to have so much fun rehearsing...and afterwards we get to enjoy dinner together...PIZZA PARTY!!!!

Hello again...

Well….I have had another busy couple weeks!!! I was part of an amazing production on May 12th…”Twilight”. I had so much fun performing the role of Rosalie Cullen! I met some amazing people and made some great life-long friends in the process. I worked on Saturday, May 14th helping to get the water park ready at Killen’s Pond! Come on out and see me this summer!!! Sunday was a very interesting day. I got to greet race fans as they entered the Monster FunZone at the 2011 Spring Nascar race. If you didn’t get a chance to get out there this time, try to come on out in September. They had face painting, horseback riding, a D.J. for dancing, animals from Brandywine Zoo, arts and crafts, a moon bounce and more!!!! A fun time for everyone. This past weekend I participated in the Downtown Dover Fashion Show at the Duncan Center. I got to some super cute clothes from Bel Boutique (Loockerman St. Dover). I even got to spend time with Kayla Martell (Miss Delaware 2010), and Amanda Debus (Miss Teen Delaware USA 2011). It was my very first time on the “runway”. Hopefully I did not make a f00l of myself. This Thursday I will be the official “MC” for the Welch Elementary Dance Team Spaghetti Dinner Talent Show Fundraiser. I am so excited to see all “my’ dancers perform. I was able to work with them this past winter choreographing and teaching them dances to “Dynamite” and “Firework”. I love those kids. I will be working at the water park ALL weekend. Come on out for opening weekend a Killen’s Pond and see me. In June I will be hosting a Zumba class in Milford at First State Academy of Dance in an effort to raise funds for CMN.

A busy busy weekend!!

The weekend started early Friday...right after school! I had to rush to Milford for a dress rehearsal (I had a preview performance for Twilight on Saturday for Dover Days). From rehearsal I rushed to Dover Downs (with Ms. Maria, one of my dance teachers) to Kayla's Gala!!! It was so awesome seeing all the girls that will be competing in the 2011 Miss Delaware Pageant next month...I wish them all the best of luck. Kayla looked amazing, as always. After a good night sleep I was up early preparing for the TD Bank Pet Parade for Olde Dover Days. Kayla and I led the parade with our dogs by our sides...it was so cute...and challenging. My dog, Jax, gets very excited around other dogs. As soon as the parade ended I had to rush to Milford for more Twilight practice...then head out to get my hair done for prom (all the way in Georgetown)...then rush back to Dover to the Schwartz Center for our Twilight Preview! Wow!!!! Finally, Daniel and I quickly changed into our Prom attire and headed out for pix, dinner, and then FINALLY...CR PROM 2011! I had the best time with some fabulous friends. Mother's Day was spent...take a guess...YUP...at Twilight rehearsal for most of the day and then dinner with the fam down in Lewes! My little sister and I played in the sand. This week I will have dress rehearsal and then the BIG performance on Thursday May 12th, 7 p.m. at the Schwartz Center in Dover! Twilight! I am so excited the show is finally here...WE ALL have been working so hard. It is going to be AMAZING!!!!

On behalf of the MDOT committee, we thank her for her year of service and wish the very best for you. Katelynn, you did an amazing job this year! my Vacation

Georgia was a long drive. 15 hours to be exact. My twin brother D.J. and his travel baseball team "the DE warriors BBA" did an awesome job. They played some great teams down South, but did not make it to the championship game. They are champions no matter what place they came in. I was just so glad to spend time with the team and my family. Seeing all the guys just having fun and smiling is what made me happy inside. I am proud. GO WARRIORS!!!

Miss DE week

Miss DE week was an amazing week for me. Also one of my most exhausting week to. It was between rehearsing all the numbers and study for my final at the same time, but i pulled it off. All of these young ladies were fabulous. Most of them i knew, but the ones i did not know i became really close to over that week.

Congratulations to my new big sister Kayla Martel, she is going to make us proud through out the year representing our state with her beauty, charm, and platform. Congratulations to all the other 15 contestants that did a wonderful job. It was an honor to be a part of the Miss DE week and experience with all of you.

Dover parade

On may 1, I had the privilege of participating in the Dover Day Parade. I was driven by my directors husband in a red Chrysler lebaron. The day turned out to be really hot, but I survived. I saw some beautiful arts and crafts and talked to a lot of young children who asked for pictures and autographs. The high light of my day was seeing my god mom's daughter "Olivia" wave and smile at the horses and firetrucks

A day at the races

Being a part of one of Dover's biggest events was great. My pop-pop and I spent the morning entertaining the kids at the Dover Downs in the kids zone. I had so much fun dancing with the kids and giving out door prizes and riding a horse. The D.J was so nice and kept us entertained all morning and afternoon with music. After all the rain the day before the day turned out beautiful with a nice breeze blowing.

On may 2, 2010 I joined Heather Lehman and all of the competitors competing for Miss DE 2010. Heather is an amazing woman and was truly an inspiring Miss DE and big sister. I had a great time with Heather and have so many funny memories I will always share with her.I could not ask for a better big sister to look up to. I look forward to the rest of my year as Miss DE Outstanding Teen 2010 and sharing it with the newly crowned Miss DE. Who will be my next big sister? :):):)

I spent the morning at Paul Pruitt's Studio with Nicole Bosso, Miss Newcastle County. I enjoyed a quick photo shoot, as well as a head shot with my mom and I. We had a nice time visiting with the other local title holders. Nicole's fundraiser was great! Then i went to the Pal Center in Hockessin for JDRF, for my platform. I helped the girls scouts of troop 42 with face painting. To see just the smile from these children was such a joy... Even though the weather was rainy, The JDRF fundraiser was still a great success.

Mr. DE 2010 was a great event that i performed at on 4/10/10. Congratulation's to Mr. 302 Shannon Hopkins. He performed and amazing dance to "Thriller" as his talent. Chris and Julie of course did a great job hosting the lovely event. I was nice to see some of the MDOT contestants there Megan Card, Ashley Tiegan, Ashely Stewart Kristin Zaribicki, and Veronica Townsend...who are all my best friends and amazing ladies.

I also was able to ride the float with Heather, Miss DE, Miss NJ, Miss PA, one of DE's National Princesses, Sarah, Jeanette Morelan, Miss America's Outstanding Teen 2010 and Miss America 2008 Kirsten Haglund. I was able to watch Kirsten Haglund perform. I was riding the float that was sponsored by Zinman Furs and I was able to wear a warm fur coat that was absolutely stunning!

On September 1st, I was able to talk on Cat Country Radio about the race on September the 6th. Heather and I had a wonderful time promoting the Miss Delaware Organization, the Miss Delaware's Outstanding Teen Organization and Children's Miracle Network. At the race on Sunday the 6th all of us had a great time walking around meeting the drivers, selling 50/50 tickets, throwing items into the stands, and promoting our organizations and Childrens Miracle Network. The Delaware State Fair is 90 years old! I had a wonderful time at the fair riding in the parade and watching amazing shows. Heather, Miss Delaware 2009, was there too. I met Miss Apple Scrapple 2008, Miss Dairy Princess 2009, and Little Miss Apple Scrapple 2008. I even took pictures with goats, a chicken, and a pig! I hope every one had a happy 4th of July. I had I great day doing parades in Philadelphia and in Dover.

In Philadelphia I rode on a float with Joey Page, a Radio Disney star; Miss New Jersey's Outstanding Teen, Brenna; and Miss Pennsylvania's Outstanding Teen, Jill. Joey sang and all of us had a good time getting to know each other. Check Joey out at MySpace or Twitter.

In Dover, I met up with Miss Delaware, Heather. The colors worked out really nicely because she was wearing blue and in a red car and I was wearing red and in a blue car! (Thanks Grumpa for driving me.) It was great being back in Delaware for the end to my wonderful holiday.

Blue-Gold Game

The 2009 Blue-Gold game was great. I had fun meeting new buddies and seeing buddies I had met at other events. Even though it was raining, the weather held out enough to watch the game. Blue won, but both teams did a wonderful job supporting their buddies and playing football. I can't wait to go again next year. The date has been set so save it now! Even though it was raining, everyone's spirits were high as we watched the Miss Delaware 2009 contestants and Miss Delaware 2008, Galen Giaccone, perform. I performed a jazz dance. We even had a comedic pre-show with two gentlemen from the audience and the DJ. All the contestants are very talented. I'm so excited to watch the talents on the Miss Delaware stage! I can't wait to see who my new big sister will be :) !!!

Nascar At Dover

Being in the Kids Zone at the Dover International Speedway was tons of fun. I got to sign autographs and I also signed 4 shirts, 3 hats, 2 loose leef pieces of paper, an autograph book, and a cast! Everyone I met was wonderful. It was a beautiful day to be out in the sun (even though I got a little sun burnt!). The DJ had me doing CRAZY dances with the kids. I learned the car wash dance and we even did some old school moves like the cabbage patch and the sprinkler.

Buddy Walk

This weekend I had the chance to walk for two buddies at the Down Syndrome Association of Delaware's Buddy Walk. My buddies were Victoria and Kennedie. Victoria had a red, white, and blue theme with stickers, flags, and nosie makers. Kennedie had a Mardi Gras theme with beads and a boa. All the teams had so much spirit! I also had a chance to watch several groups perform. Victoria, Kennedie and other buddies did a wonderful ballet routine. Also the Diamond Elite and Delaware Stars special needs cheerleading teams were there. All the athletes did a wonderful job. I had a blast this weekend.

Downtown Dover Fashion Show

I had a great first appearance. The fashion show supporting the downtown Dover shops was a success. I had fun hanging with the other title holders before the show began and walking around seeing the tables that were set up. When the show started all the models look wonderful and we had an amazing show. There were even dogs in the show that were so cute! I modeled a dress from Bel Boutique. It was accessorized with a Vera Bradley purse and matching flip-flops from Forney’s Too. When I went to the boutique, I loved their clothes and shoes. I bought a dress and a pair of Dizzy sandals. They are so adorable!

Photo Shoot =)

Wow! What an adventure. The day started out with Kimberly coming to my house. Everything was going fine until the GPS system shut down and we missed our exit. Kimberly, my mom and I all tried to get it to turn back on. None of us could until I found the reset button. While trying to fix the GPS, we somehow ended up in Philadelphia when we needed to be in New Jersey! After getting back on track everything went smoothly...Until we got to the train station. We couldn't find a parking spot that would fit Kimberly's car. Finally we gave one spot a try. Kimberly is amazing! She parked into the TINIEST parking spot EVER! The best part was trying to get out of the car. We had cars on both sides. We even had to move the BMW's side view mirror. We got on our train and successfully made it to New York.

Thanks to my huge MDOT bag, Kyle found us at the station. Kyle took us on our own tour of the city. We stopped and ate at a diner before going to the shoot. Finally we made it to Barry's new studio. I had loads of fun! My make-up and hair looked gorgeous. Thank you Maureen for spending so much time and making me feel so pampered. I cant wait to try the advice you gave me. (I promise not to flat iron my hair so often.) And thank you Barry! The photo shoot was more than I expected. The pictures turned out better than I could have ever imagine!

After the photo shoot we shopped at Macy's. I'm pretty sure I tried on 50 dresses. Kimberly, Whitney, and Kyle are great shoppers with excellent taste. Thank you to everyone who was apart of this day, and the MDOT committee for an experience I will never forget!

Danielle was crowned before a crowded audience at Sussex Central High School in Georgetown by Amanda Debus, Miss Delaware’s Outstanding Teen 2008. The pageant marked the Fifth Anniversary of Miss Delaware’s Outstanding Teen and featured, Galen Giaccone, Miss Delaware 2008; Amanda Debus, MDOT ’08; Chelsea Betts, MDOT ’07; Carly Economos, MDOT ’05; and Aimee Voshell String, Miss Delaware 1996. The show was Produced and Directed by Alison White, Miss Delaware 1997 and Choreographed by Michelle Buglio, Miss New Castle County 2005. Danielle competed with eighteen other talented and beautiful Delaware teens, performing an acrobatic-jazz dance to “Urban,” Cirque du Soleil. The nineteen contestants competed in interview, talent, evening gown, on-stage question, and scholastic achievement. Danielle will now have the honor of representing Delaware this August at the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen 2010 Pageant in Orlando, Florida. Danielle will spend her year advocating her platform, “Active and Able: Empowering Children with Special Needs,” serving as a role model for teens, and making appearances throughout Delaware. One of Danielle’s first appearances will be the Miss Delaware 2009 Pageant, June 11, 12, and 13 at Dover Downs Hotel and Casino.

Additional awards were earned by: First Runner-Up, Nikki Laws, a junior at William Penn High School; Second Runner-Up, Krista Clausen, a sophomore at Sussex Central High School; Third Runner-Up, Kristen Juhrden, a sophomore at Ursuline Academy; and Fourth Runner-Up, Valerie Lane, a junior at Cab Calloway School of the Arts. Scholarships were also given for: Outstanding Community Service, Julianne Dominelli, a junior St. Marks High School; Outstanding Scholastic Achievement, Chelsea Huang, a junior at Middletown High School; Outstanding Scholastic Achievement Runner-Up, Valerie Lane, a junior at Cab Calloway School of the Arts; Non-Finalist Talent Award, Katelynn Mayers, an Eight-Grade Student at Cab Calloway School of the Arts; and Non-Finalist Interview Award, Julianne Dominelli, a junior at St. Marks High School. Ashley Tiedgen, a freshman at Polytech High School was chosen by her fellow contestants as Miss Congeniality.

As I sit here and type, I am still in awe. I am honored and grateful to be named Miss Delaware’s Outstanding Teen 2009!! :] Thanks to the contestants for making this year’s pageant a blast. I had fun getting to know everyone. Amanda, thank you for your kind words on the blog. I have always admired your talent and beauty. I am very lucky to have you as a pageant sister.

The year ahead of me is going to be crazy, but worth the hard work. I will represent our state with pride. To all that have supported me through my journey…THANKS! Words could never describe how much of a difference you have made in my life. My dream is finally coming true thanks to everyone who has helped me along the way. THE NEW MISS DELAWARE'S OUTSTANDING TEEN IS... DANIELLE MARSHALL!!!

I am so proud to welcome this young woman into the MDOT sisterhood. Dani and I have not only worked together, under the direction of Dineen and Tom Berger, for the past 4 or so years, but I remember dancing with Dani when we were younger at Stage Lights Dance Studio. WOW, I cannot believe how this girl- excuse me- young woman has changed just in the past year. Outstanding, simply Outstanding.

Congratulations to all the girls on a job well done! You all will be in my heart forever, and no matter the results, (I know this is corny..but..) you are all winners. Seriously, you each will walk away from this experience, with or with out awards, and have changed tremendously. Never give up on your dreams, to achieve it is to believe it. I cannot wait to compete with some of you on the Miss Delaware's stage.

Thank you to everyone who supported the MDOT contestants today, you all played a part in their achievements. And lastly, thank you to whomever donated to my Miss Delaware's Outstanding Teen 2008 Be Comfortable in Your Genes: Jean Drive. I will keep you updated on the earnings.

Wow. I can not believe my year has come to a close.. As I sit here typing away in Georgeanne's living room, half way to tears, I would like to thank EVERYONE who has supported me, the MDOT team, the MDSO, and the Miss America/Miss America Outstanding Teen Scholarship Organization over the years.

In just about 11 hours there will be a new MDOT, with new dreams, and new hopes.. I know whomever I place the crown on tonight, will take the crown and run with it, making a difference in all the lives they come in contact with. I want to take the time to congratulate all the girls on a spectacular show now, it is AMAZING. (Alison, your one great set designer/producer.) You girls are special in every way, and each of you can represent the First State beautifully.

I left my house Friday as Miss Delaware's Outstanding Teen, and I am going to return tonight as just Mandie- the typical teenage girl, that just happens to be a firefighter :) But, you know what, I am perfectly fine with that... Some one this weekend made the comment to me that it's better to be a 'has-been,' than a 'never-was.' When they said that I just thought that it was the best statement I have ever heard.

To my supporters, don't you worry, I'll be on the Miss Delaware stage once again in the very near future :) Thank you for a stupendous year.

In under two weeks I will be passing on the Miss Delaware's Outstanding Teen title to another deserving young lady. I think it is crazy that I was crowned by Chelsea Betts just twelve months ago. As I prepare to pass the legacy down, I find myself remembering back on my year. It was such a blast, and I thank God for every minute of it. The numbers of opportunities that the Miss America's Outstanding Teen Organization gave to me is indescribable.

I hope to see all of you at the 2009 Miss Delaware's Outstanding Teen competition, it should be an amazing show that you do not want to miss! The crowning moment will be bittersweet, but I know that when one door closes, millions of others open. I am so thankful for this year and for everyone I have met this year. You will all stay in my memories forever!

On a lighter note... As some of you may know, in connection with the Miss America, and Miss America's Outstanding Teen, National Platform, Children's MIracle Network, I am collecting new or gently used jeans, and then I will sell them. I will take all proceeds and donate to the Children's Miracle Network. Please help if you can!! Bring your donations to the MDOT09 pageant on Sat., 3/28 through Sun., 3/29. If you cannot make it to Georgetown on 3/28-3/29, let me know and I can work with you to collect your donations. (Note: Your donations does not even have to be jeans.. I am collecting anything. Shoes, Shirts, Jeans, Shorts, etc)

This past weekend, my schedule was booked solid! On Friday, I attended

Julianne Dominelli's "B+" fundraising event. She made $850.00 towards the Be Positive Foundation. It was so much fun performing, and so many people told me that my performance brought a tear to their eyes - I love hearing that my dance has a special impact on people! On Saturday, I traveled to Dover for my last parade as Miss Delaware's Outstanding Teen.. It was a whirlwind of emotions. My neighbor, Dmitry, rode along with me in the parade. He was amazed at how much attention I was getting, and after the parade, he told me he was 'very upset about the attention especially from the boys' (Dmitry was adopted years ago, and ever since then he believed he was going to marry me..)

Later tonight is Galen's Georgia House Fundraiser. As of now, this event is my last public appearance :( I say again, it is crazy to believe that in thirteen days there will be a new Miss Delaware's Outstanding Teen. I know that she will be so excited to start her new life with the title.

Welcome Back to Reality..

Happy Valentine's Day!! It's been forever since I have updated, and I am super sorry for that!! Since my last blog, a lot has been going on..

Vegas was such a blast! It was so much fun reuniting with all the girls that came to support their sisters. So many things made that week even more memorable. From performing on the Miss America stage with the Class of 2008 Outstanding Teens, to the photo shoot with Stacey Schieffelin and all the be...ybf girls. The most amazing part of the week was seeing Galen compete in the finals for Miss America. I am so happy that I was able to see Galen make Miss Delaware history. It's been a while since a Miss Delaware has made it into the finals competition!!

Since returning home, I have auditioned for a movie! It is an independent-type film, from two film majors at Temple University. Doing a film should defiantly be a blast! I have also stayed involved with the Everett Theater, and I am planning on auditioning for the next show, which I hear is Evita (:

On a pageantry note, the MDOT 2009 orientation is this Sunday. I am eagerly awaiting meeting all the new girls this year, and catching up with the ones from last year. After orientation, the 2009 contestants and I will all be at the Buffalo Wild Wings in Dover for a Meet-&-Greet type of dinner. The more people, the more fun! Please come and support our girls!!

OH! Also, as a fundraiser for the Children's Miracle Network, I am asking everyone to raid your closets for jeans that you do not wear. New, Old, Gently Used, Etc. Anything will help! I will be collecting the clothing, then selling them to a second-hand store. All the profit will be going to the CMN fund. Again, anything will help! Contact me with any questions.

Happy Holidays from everyone in the MDOT organization! I hope everyone is safe, and enjoying time with their family!

I had a wonderful Christmas; clothes galore (: I absolutely loved spending the day with my parents, my animals, my brother, and his new Bichon puppy - Sissy. At first, I couldn't believe my brother, and his girlfriend, would name their dog Sissy, but I understand why.. That dog is scared of ANYTHING and EVERYTHING, but she is too cute!!

The month of January is so busy for me! At school, we are beginning the rehearsals for our Spring musical,Copacabana. In the pageant life, the lasts of the locals are creeping up on us, and I am very excited! In my personal life, I have been apart of the Everett Theatre's revival of Grease! and the shows are coming up fast! I hope everyone can make it to a show!! (see flyer at the bottom of post) In my family life, on January 2nd my mother is having surgery on her arm again.. Please keep her in her thoughts and prayers..

Long time no post!! I have been so busy these past couple of weeks.. Lets see, I first I need to congratulate the winners of the Teen Diamond State / New Castle County, Danielle Marshall (Miss New Castle County's OT) Annie Davis (Miss Diamond State's OT) and Kaitlyn Mayers (Jr. Teen New Castle County). Second, I would like to congratulate the titleholders crowned last Saturday at the Miss Brandywine’s Outstanding Teen / Miss Mid Atlantic 2009 Pageant; Valerie Lane (Miss Brandywine's OT), Julianna Dominelli (Miss Mid Atlantic's OT), Lauren Gagliardino (Miss Mid Atlantic), Heather McKinney (Miss Eastern Shore), Jenna Brindley (Miss First State), and Shalia Gillis (Miss Millsboro). Congratulations to all the 2009 title holders!

Now, lets go back to around Thanksgiving time... For Thanksgiving, I watched the Ikea Parade (looking out for Galen, Kristin, Taylor, Carly, and Julia!), then my family drove to Maryland to see my Great-Grandma Josie and some of my family on my dad's side. After spending some time at that 'dinner,’ we drove home to one of our family-friends' house for another 'dinner.’ After all those 'dinners,' I never ate a smidgen of turkey! After that night, I did what any other teenage girl would want to do on Black Friday: Shop at 3 am!! It was not one of my brightest ideas, because I was set to go to the Wilmington Christmas Parade! I was on the DuPont float with all of the Delaware titleholders; Vincenza, Bethany, Galen, Lili, and Miss Hispanic DE 2008. The parade went down Market St. and we had a great time!! I was also happy to share Vincenza and Bethany's last appearance with them. They both did a wonderful job this year, and I’m so glad I had the opportunity to share the 2008 reining year with these amazing women!

Later that weekend, on Sunday, I attended the Dover Downs Chocolate Festival. My mom, dad, grandparents, and my best friend, Katie, accompanied me and we spoke with many of the exhibitors, taste-tested all sorts of things, and bought a few of our favorite items. I performed a dance number, my baton routine, and 2 songs. It was my first time singing at an appearance, and It was so much fun! I sang Taylor the Latte Boy, and Our Song The performances went very well and they were followed by a musical group. I met a few other pageant titleholders and supported my big sis as she performed (even if I wasn’t being the official ‘unofficial music holder’)! I Once I finished performing, I gathered up my things and quickly drove to the Miss Delaware USA pageant! I made it soon after the event started! Congratulations to the two new titleholders representing Delaware in the USA circuit: Kate and Kelsey!

Third, I have recently been under-the-weather with a string of the flu ): However that doesn't stop me from my duties as MDOT. I was still in the Middletown Holiday Parade on Saturday with the local NCC/DS title holders (pics to come) and I was able to go to my photoshoot yesterday with Al from Timeless Images - Just with alot of medicine in me! The photoshoot was amazing and fun like always. I can not wait to share the proofs (:

This past weekend was my first days in Delaware State Fire School, and I SURVIVED! This weekend was all inside of classrooms, learning about SAFETY (hint hint wink wink) and Hazardous Materials. I have now had the extreme pleasure of meeting Mr Grover Ingle - and I promise I will never forget his name, and job, EVER again in interview. The class takes place over a 3 weekend span, and the next 2 weekends will be all outside (yay strenuous labor!)

This Wednesday, I will be traveling down state for the Milford Halloween Parade. Who knows what I will go as.. Any ideas?

My highschool life has made me quite busy. Between scholastics, football games / band, chorus, and my dance / baton lessons, I have had to make up hours of the day. 24 hours just isn't enough for me!

So sorry for the lack of posting since my return from MAOTeen. I have been really busy with getting back into the swing of things. My high school schedule with band, dance team, and baton is absolutely crazy! I hope everyone had a fantastic summer, and a great holiday weekend!!

This Saturday is the first Miss Local that I have the opportunity to entertain in, and I am very anxious to see who the new Wilmington titleholders are going to be! Please show your support for the women competing (:

Also this weekend -Friday- is my high school's first home football game of the season; We are all very excited to play DeMatha Catholic High School's football team. I will be participating in the halftime show with the marching band; I will most likely be singing the National Anthem with the Middletown High School's Chorus also. Come support the MHS Cavs- and wear blue!!

As school picks up, I will update my blog as much as I can.. So please look for the new posts!
